Job Title: Head of Security / Senior Security Manager
Role Summary: Leads and scales the security function for a growing defence technology company, safeguarding people, assets, information, and operations while aligning with government and defence customers’ requirements.
Expectations: Demonstrate strategic security leadership, ensure compliance with UK defence and government security standards, embed a security‑first culture, and support rapid organisational growth and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a proportionate security strategy aligned with company growth and customer needs.
- Serve as senior security authority and trusted advisor to executive leadership.
- Embed strong security culture without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Ensure compliance with UK defence and government security requirements (MOD JSPs, NCSC guidance).
- Act as primary point of contact for customer and government security stakeholders.
- Lead facility and programme accreditations, audits, and inspections.
- Establish and oversee physical security for offices, labs, manufacturing, and test sites.
- Own personnel security processes, including vetting, clearance management, and insider risk mitigation.
- Develop incident response, crisis management, and emergency procedures.
- Provide security governance over sensitive, classified, and export‑controlled information.
- Collaborate with IT, Cyber, and Engineering teams to enforce secure‑by‑design systems.
- Support secure handling of R&D, IP, and customer data.
- Identify and manage security risks across operations, programmes, and supply chain.
- Lead investigations into security incidents and coordinate reporting and remediation.
- Develop and maintain business continuity and resilience plans.
- Work with Commercial to assess and manage security risks associated with suppliers, partners, and contractors.
Required Skills:
- Senior security experience within defence, aerospace, government or related sectors.
- Deep knowledge of defence security compliance and classified environments.
- Experience managing risk and incident response in a fast‑paced, scaling organisation.
- Strong stakeholder engagement with executives, customers, and government bodies.
- Ability to embed security culture while minimizing bureaucracy.
- Familiarity with export controls and international security frameworks (desirable).
Required Education & Certifications:
- Professional security qualifications such as CPP, CSyP, or CSMP (preferred).
- Relevant academic background in security, risk management, or related fields.
