Mission

The Head of Security / Senior Security Manager will establish and lead a pragmatic, scalable security function appropriate for a growing defence technology company. The role is responsible for protecting people, assets, information, and operations while enabling rapid growth, innovation, and delivery to government and defence customers.

What Will Be Your Responsibilities

Security Strategy & Leadership
Design and implement a proportionate security strategy aligned with company growth and customer requirements
Act as the senior security authority and trusted advisor to the senior leadership team
Embed a strong security culture without creating unnecessary bureaucracy

Defence & Government Compliance

Ensure compliance with UK defence and government security requirements (e.g. MOD JSPs, NCSC guidance)
Act as the primary point of contact for customer and government security stakeholders
Lead facility and programme accreditations, audits, and inspections

Physical & Personnel Security

Establish and oversee physical security arrangements for offices, labs, manufacturing, and test sites
Own personnel security processes including vetting, clearance management, and insider risk mitigation
Develop incident response, crisis management, and emergency procedures

Information & Cyber Security (Governance)

Provide security governance over sensitive, classified, and export-controlled information
Work closely with IT & Cyber and Engineering teams to ensure secure-by-design systems and processes
Support secure handling of R&D, IP, and customer data

Risk, Incident & Business Continuity

Identify and manage security risks across operations, programmes, and supply chain
Lead investigations into security incidents and coordinate reporting and remediation
Develop and maintain business continuity and resilience plans

Supply Chain & Partner Security

Work with Commercial to assess and manage security risks associated with suppliers, partners, and contractors
Work with Commercial to define and enforce appropriate security requirements across the supply chain

Essential

Profile and requirements:

Senior security experience within defence, aerospace, government, or related sectors
Strong understanding of defence security compliance and classified environments
Experience operating in a fast-paced, growing organisation
Proven risk management and incident response capability
Ability to engage credibly with executives, customers, and government bodies

Desirable

Background in military, intelligence, law enforcement, or defence industry security
Experience supporting R&D, manufacturing, or flight/test operations
Knowledge of export controls and international security frameworks
Professional security qualifications (e.g. CPP, CSyP, CSMP)
