**Job Title:** Azure/SQL Database Administrator
**Role Summary:**
Senior Database Administrator responsible for managing, securing, and optimizing SQL Server 16+ environments across Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, and Azure VMs. Provides 24/7 support, disaster recovery, patch management, and performance tuning. Serves as a liaison for change management, documentation, and external consulting.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver continuous availability and disaster recovery for mission‑critical databases.
- Maintain high standards of security, compliance, and data integrity.
- Document procedures and policies, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Automate routine tasks and reporting to improve efficiency.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design, implement, and monitor HA/DR solutions (Always On AG, geo‑replication, point‑in‑time restore).
- Deploy, patch, and upgrade Azure SQL services and on‑premises SQL Server on Azure VMs.
- Manage database capacity: space allocation, fragmentation repair, and performance tuning.
- Monitor and enforce database standards, security, and compliance across all environments.
- Oversee backup/restore operations, validation, and troubleshooting of backup failures.
- Execute and vet scripts for schema changes, indexes, and constraints.
- Maintain scheduled jobs, alerts, and monitoring dashboards (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics).
- Coordinate incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem documentation.
- Support migrations from on‑premises SQL Server to Azure SQL platforms.
- Work with ETL tools (Azure Data Factory, SSIS) for data integration and movement.
- Provide proactive recommendations for capacity planning, performance improvement, and cost optimization.
- Liaise with external consultants and stakeholders on change impacts and solutions.
**Required Skills:**
- 7+ years DBA experience with SQL Server 16+ and Azure SQL environments.
- Deep knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, and Azure VM SQL Server.
- Proven HA/DR implementation (Always On AG, geo‑replication).
- Transparent Data Encryption expertise.
- Strong understanding of database security, role‑based access, encryption, and compliance.
- Design & testing of backup/recovery strategies for Azure SQL.
- Monitoring & alerting with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics.
- Scripting: PowerShell, Python (automation, deployment).
- Experience in migrating on‑prem to Azure SQL.
- Familiarity with ETL (Azure Data Factory, SSIS).
- Performance tuning: query optimization, index tuning, configuration.
- Documentation of processes, policies, and system architecture.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Preferred certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (optional).
