**Job Title:** Ground Segment and Operations Engineer
**Role Summary**
Design, develop, test, and validate the end‑to‑end ground and operations infrastructure for an in‑orbit servicing mission. Own architectural decisions, integration strategies, and operational execution from launch to disposal, ensuring compliance with space industry standards and security requirements.
**Expectations**
- 5+ years of experience in space‑ground system engineering.
- Proven track record of delivering ground segment architecture for complex missions.
- Deep knowledge of CCSDS, ECSS/NASA standards, telemetry, TT&C, and mission control systems.
- Strong systems analysis, trade‑off, and modeling skills.
- Experience with modern DevOps practices and software/hardware integration.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Define and validate ground segment requirements, architectures, and operational workflows, including MCC, TT&C, data flows, automation, security, and availability.
2. Design mission control services, ground‑network topology, and hybrid cloud/on‑premise interfaces.
3. Produce ICDs, CONOPS, and operational documentation, and enforce CCSDS/ECSS/NASA standards.
4. Conduct end‑to‑end command & data flow modeling, RF link budgeting, and performance simulations across all mission phases.
5. Execute trade‑off studies for redundancy, processing strategies, and tooling selection.
6. Specify ground‑segment hardware & software components (MCS, FDS, telemetry DBs, archiving).
7. Evaluate build‑vs‑buy versus partnering options for ground stations and networks.
8. Implement DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, containerization, monitoring, and configuration control for ground software.
9. Define V&V plans, run SVTs, end‑to‑end tests (simulators/HIL), and lead mission rehearsals and readiness reviews.
10. Validate operational procedures, rules, timelines, display interfaces, and data integrity.
11. Develop operational concepts, staffing, contingency strategies, and coordination plans for LEOP, proximity operations, and disposal.
12. Oversee MCC operations, command flows, and critical event execution.
13. Coordinate with spacecraft subsystems, autonomy/GNC teams, software developers, ground providers, and assurance teams.
14. Maintain compliance with cybersecurity, export‑control, and regulatory requirements.
15. Own architecture documentation, scope, risk, and delivery management.
**Required Skills**
- Ground‐segment architecture & system design
- Telemetry, TT&C, RF link budgeting, and data handling
- Cable and inter‑component interfaces (ICDs)
- CCSDS, ECSS/NASA standards familiarity
- Mission control system design (MCC, FDS)
- Simulation & modeling (Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, HIL)
- Systems trade‑off and performance analysis
- DevOps practices (CI/CD, containerization, monitoring)
- Verification & validation methodologies (SVT, E2E testing)
- Operational planning, staffing, and contingency management
- Stakeholder management and cross‑functional coordination
- Knowledge of export‑control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and cybersecurity practices
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in spaceground system engineering.
- Familiarity with space industry certification processes (e.g., COSMIC, ESA waiver) is an advantage.
