Job Description
Job title: Intern – Embedded Firmware Engineer, Battery Software (Summer 2026) Role Summary: Provide hands‑on firmware development for battery management and energy intelligence systems in electric vehicles and stationary storage. Deliver high‑quality, safety‑critical code, contribute to cross‑functional design, and support verification, testing, and debugging activities during a 12‑week internship. Expectations: • Develop and maintain real‑time embedded software in C (or equivalent). • Design state machines, fault handling, and diagnostics for battery systems. • Interface with hardware peripherals and serial communication protocols. • Verify and validate code through unit tests and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) tests. • Create scripts and tools for integration tests. • Follow SDLC processes, produce reproducible builds, and resolve time‑critical issues. Key Responsibilities: – Write production‑ready firmware for battery and energy products. – Lead design of mission‑critical features and ensure compliance with safety standards. – Interface with hardware schematics and peripheral drivers. – Conduct unit testing, HIL simulation, and debugging with appropriate tools. – Develop and maintain testing scripts/tools. – Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on product specifications and timelines. – Perform additional tasks as directed within the Battery Software department. Required Skills: • Proficiency in C programming and embedded software development (architecture, design, coding, verification, maintenance). • Experience with multi‑core, safety‑critical systems. • Knowledge of hardware interface (schematics, drivers) and serial communication protocols. • Familiarity with debugging and analysis tools. • Understanding of SDLC and software engineering practices. • (Optional: AUTOSAR, Automotive Ethernet, UDS, serial protocols, MATLAB/Simulink, Python). Required Education & Certifications: • Current enrollment in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field. • Proof of current enrollment for the upcoming program.
