Job Description
**Job Title:** Senior Counsel, Privacy **Role Summary** Provide expert legal counsel on privacy and data protection across a global, highly regulated automotive organization. Develop and lead privacy compliance programs, translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable strategies, and integrate privacy-by-design into product lifecycle and new business models. **Expectations** - Act as the organization’s privacy subject‑matter expert and trusted advisor. - Partner with HR, IT, compliance, engineering, procurement and business units to deliver practical, business‑oriented legal advice. - Stay current on U.S., EU and international privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PII, Saudi law) and industry guidance. - Influence product launches and technology adoption to ensure privacy compliance and competitive advantage. - Manage outside counsel and coordinate reporting to data authorities. **Key Responsibilities** - Assess, advise, and document the impact of evolving privacy legislation and guidelines. - Design, implement, and maintain global privacy compliance programs, including policies, procedures, and training. - Evaluate regulatory requirements for existing and emerging markets (Asia, EU, Saudi Arabia). - Conduct privacy impact assessments and support data‑processing authority filings. - Negotiate and review privacy and security clauses in contracts. - Champion privacy‑by‑design and default across product development cycles. - Counsel on new business models and technology offerings, ensuring privacy readiness. - Engage and manage outside counsel as needed. **Required Skills** - Juris Doctor, active bar membership in at least one U.S. state. - Minimum 5 years of legal experience, 3 years focused on privacy compliance. - Strong analytical, oral and written communication; ability to explain complex legal issues to non‑legal stakeholders. - Experience designing privacy programs for automotive, IoT or mobility platforms. - Proven ability to work creatively and practically to solve novel legal challenges. **Required Education & Certifications** - JD degree and good standing in at least one state bar. - Experience with privacy compliance in Asia, EU or other international markets. - International Association of Privacy Professionals certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CIPP/A) strongly preferred. - Automotive industry experience a plus.
