Job Description
Job title: Group Data Protection Officer (Part‑Time) Role Summary: Oversee data protection compliance across the UK and Malta for a regulated financial technology company. Act as the appointed DPO, ensuring adherence to GDPR, local laws, and industry regulations, while embedding privacy‑by‑design and fostering a culture of data protection. Expectations: - Serve as primary liaison with the ICO (UK) and IDPC (Malta). - Provide executive counsel on privacy risks and regulatory developments. - Lead continuous improvement of data protection strategy and governance. - Ensure timely handling of data subject requests and breach incidents. - Drive vendor risk assessments and DPA negotiations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Monitor compliance with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and national data protection statutes for UK and Malta operations. 2. Maintain comprehensive Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) for both jurisdictions. 3. Conduct and document Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). 4. Manage and respond to data subject rights requests (DSARs, erasure, etc.). 5. Investigate, document, and report personal data breaches; support regulatory reporting. 6. Perform vendor risk assessments; support drafting and monitoring of Data Processing Agreements (DPAs). 7. Embed privacy‑by‑design principles into product, service, and system development. 8. Deliver and track data protection training and awareness programmes. 9. Respond to internal GDPR queries and provide guidance on legal obligations. 10. Collaborate with IT Security, Compliance, Legal, and HR to implement data protection measures. 11. Maintain audit‑ready documentation and internal assurance controls. Required Skills: - In‑depth knowledge of UK, EU/GDPR, and Malta data protection laws. - Experience implementing data protection in FCA or MFSA‑licensed environments. - Strong expertise in DPIAs, ROPA, DSAR handling, breach investigation, and vendor risk assessment. - Proven ability to advise C‑level executives on privacy risk and compliance strategy. - Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills. - Pragmatic, solution‑oriented approach to data privacy challenges.
