**Job Title:** Senior Principal Systems Administrator 5
**Role Summary:**
Senior Systems Administrator responsible for the operation, maintenance, and security of Windows, Red Hat/Linux, and Solaris environments supporting a classified government radar sustainment program. Works with network, hardware, and software teams to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance with federal security standards.
**Expectations:**
- Maintain 24/7 system availability; respond to after‑hours and weekend incidents as required.
- Operate under an active Secret clearance and adhere to NISPOM, RMF, STIG, JAFAN/JSIG policies.
- Provide accurate security documentation and audit logs for classified systems.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and recommend upgrades.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows, Red Hat/Linux, and Solaris servers; build and STIG servers.
- Manage user/computer accounts, file permissions, and security access lists.
- Perform system patching, upgrades, imaging, backup/recovery, and disk‑space management.
- Monitor system performance, conduct problem resolution, and implement configuration changes.
- Coordinate with network engineers on subnets, routing, VLANs; support Cisco infrastructure.
- Prepare and maintain security documentation for ISSO review and Computer Security input.
- Evaluate hardware/software purchases; liaise with vendors for product support and evaluation.
- Conduct security audits, maintain logging, and ensure compliance with DoD 8570, NIST, and related standards.
**Required Skills:**
- Extensive systems administration (10+ years) on Windows, Red Hat/Linux, Solaris.
- Server build, imaging, and STIG implementation.
- Basic networking (subnets, routing, VLANs) and Cisco experience.
- Backup/recovery, virus protection, and disk management.
- Vendor interaction and procurement recommendations.
- Ability to lift equipment up to 40 lb; physical access to data‑center hardware.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree + 10 years experience **or** Master’s degree + 8 years experience **or** PhD/JD + 3 years experience (experience may substitute for degree).
- Active Secret security clearance.
- CompTIA Security+ CE (current).
- DoD 8570 certification in a primary OS (Windows, Linux, or Cisco).
- Preferred: Red Hat/Linux OS certification, DoD 8570 certification, rudimentary scripting, experience with Certification & Accreditation (C&A) processes, and familiarity with NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3‑ICD 503, RMF, STIG, JAFAN/JSIG environments.
