Job Title: Head of Data Science
Role Summary: Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of all data science and machine learning initiatives for a stealth‑mode AI startup, establishing the organization’s strategy, infrastructure, and team from foundational stages.
Expatations: Direct reporting to the Founder/CEO; ownership of AI/data strategy, product vision integration, and full responsibility for building a world‑class data science/ML organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive data science & ML roadmap encompassing foundational models to production AI systems.
- Architect scalable data pipelines, experimentation frameworks, and infrastructure on cloud platforms to support advanced AI development.
- Partner with leadership on technical vision, prototype iteration, and product direction.
- Recruit, mentor, and scale a high‑performance data science/ML team, establishing culture and performance standards.
- Deploy rigorous best practices for model performance, ethical AI, bias mitigation, explainability, data governance, and security.
- Drive data‑driven decision making to accelerate innovation across engineering, product, and business functions.
Required Skills:
- 7+ years in data science/machine learning with 3+ years in senior/leadership roles at startups, AI labs, or high‑growth tech firms.
- Deep hands‑on experience building and deploying production‑grade ML/AI systems (large‑scale models, generative AI, reinforcement learning, multimodal, agentic architectures).
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), MLOps tooling, and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
- Proven track record of scaling data/ML teams from inception through growth phases, including hiring and culture‑building.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity, iterate rapidly, and translate complex technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or related quantitative field.
- Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or MLOps tools are a plus.
