Job title: BMC Discovery Engineer
Role Summary: Drive production readiness for a global IT platform by designing, deploying, and supporting Linux‑based systems and BMC Discovery. Partner with developers to embed operational criteria—availability, capacity, performance, monitoring, self‑healing, and automation—into the delivery lifecycle, while championing DevOps practices and change management across the organization.
Expactations:
• Deliver continuous operational excellence and reliability for distributed infrastructure.
• Champion automation and process improvement initiatives with a security‑first mindset.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior team members.
• Collaborate with product, development, and quality teams to prioritize and align operational needs.
• Execute incident response, blameless post‑mortems, and continuous improvement of monitoring and alerting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Configure, deploy, and administer Linux environments (CentOS, RHEL, OEL, Ubuntu).
• Manage BMC Discovery for configuration‑management inventory across heterogeneous IT assets.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and credential issues (SSH, WMI/PowerShell, SNMP, APIs).
• Plan, coordinate, and implement changes for upgrades, releases, migrations, and maintenance.
• Monitor, respond to, and remediate system alerts and failures.
• Develop and document platform procedures based on best practices and standards.
• Innovate on methodologies to enhance business operations and platform reliability.
• Coach team members on operational best practices and tool usage.
• Engage across the full service lifecycle: design, deployment, operation, and refinement.
• Scale and evolve systems through automation, configuration‑management, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead incident management and post‑mortem analysis to reduce mean time to recovery.
Required Skills:
• Extensive Linux administration (CentOS, RHEL, OEL, Ubuntu).
• BMC Discovery administration and CMDB integration.
• Network troubleshooting (SSH, WMI/PowerShell, SNMP, APIs).
• CI/CD and configuration‑management tools (Chef, Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet, Octopus, XL Release, Satellite).
• Scripting: Bash, Python, Perl, PowerShell.
• Windows Server 2012+ and domain knowledge.
• ITIL basics, change control, and ITSM tools (Remedy, ServiceNow).
• Monitoring solutions (Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Nagios, Zabbix).
• Agile methodology, source‑control (Git).
• Security architecture concepts, SSL/TLS, and credentials management.
Required Education & Certifications:
• BS in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or equivalent with 4+ years of practical experience.
• CompTIA Security+ or equivalent Linux/Network administration certification preferred.
