Senior Cloud Systems Engineer
**Role Summary**
Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable cloud systems for a federal platform, focusing on AWS GovCloud. Oversee DevSecOps pipelines, infrastructure automation, and migration of legacy applications to cloud‑ready architectures.
**Expectations**
- Minimum 10 years of technology experience; 5 years specifically in cloud.
- Proven expertise in AWS GovCloud architecture, DevOps, and secure system design.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Adherence to federal security standards (e.g., FedRAMP, FISMA) and industry best practices.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Architect and deploy services across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS on AWS GovCloud.
- Develop, test, and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Azure DevOps) with embedded security controls.
- Containerize workloads using Docker/Kubernetes (EKS/ECS/Fargate).
- Implement identity and access solutions (SAML, Okta, OAuth, OpenID Connect).
- Manage and monitor resources (CloudTrail, CloudWatch, CloudWatch Alarms).
- Optimize cost through resource sizing, tagging, and usage analysis.
- Integrate observability tools (Splunk, CloudWatch) and adhere to the AWS Well‑Architected Framework.
- Produce API interfaces (RESTful, JSON, XML) and serverless functions (Lambda, Glue, MWAA).
- Ensure data compliance and governance; configure data lakes, lake formations, and data quality checks.
- Provide technical guidance for legacy migration to cloud‑native design.
**Required Skills**
- Languages: Python 3.x (data engineering), PowerShell, or equivalent.
- Cloud: Deep AWS GovCloud experience; services such as S3, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, API Gateway, Glue, MWAA.
- IaC: Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK.
- DevOps: CI/CD, GitLab/Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS/ECS/Fargate).
- Identity & Security: SAML, Okta, OAuth, OpenID Connect, CloudTrail, CloudWatch.
- Data & APIs: REST, JSON, XML; AWS API Gateway; data lake architecture.
- Observability: Splunk or equivalent; AWS Well‑Architected Framework.
- Governance: Cloud cost optimization, tagging, budgeting.
- Optional: Python Pandas, Databricks, Spark, Great Expectations, Glue Data Quality.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional (preferred).
- DevOps or Cloud Engineer certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Terraform Associate) desirable.
