Job Specifications
Power BI/Analytics Engineer (Data & Reporting)
Overview
We're looking for an experienced Power BI-focused analytics engineer to take ownership of a growing reporting and data environment. This role sits at the intersection of business intelligence, data modelling, and light data engineering, with responsibility for turning complex data into trusted, high-impact insights used across the organisation.
You'll work on an established data platform that is continuing to evolve, with the opportunity to influence tooling, standards, and the future direction of analytics - including the adoption of Microsoft Fabric.
What You'll Be Doing
Own the design, development, and enhancement of Power BI reporting, improving the depth, accuracy, and usability of existing dashboards and datasets.
Build and optimise semantic models and datasets, supporting predominantly financial and operational reporting use cases.
Develop robust data ingestion and transformation workflows, integrating data from multiple business systems (CRM, finance, HR, and other operational platforms).
Write and maintain advanced DAX calculations to support meaningful analytics and decision-making.
Partner closely with stakeholders across Finance, Commercial, Risk/Compliance, and the wider business to translate requirements into scalable reporting solutions.
Act as the Power BI subject-matter expert, providing guidance, best practices, and enablement to teams producing their own reports.
Contribute to the evolution of a modern Microsoft data platform, with exposure to Fabric, Azure-based data services, and cloud-scale analytics.
Ensure reporting solutions are secure, governed, version-controlled, and aligned with data protection and regulatory expectations.
Monitor and improve report performance, refresh reliability, and overall platform stability.
What We're Looking For
Strong hands-on experience delivering production-grade Power BI solutions in a complex, data-rich environment.
Deep knowledge of Power BI Desktop & Service, DAX, and Power Query, with a solid grounding in data modelling and star schema design.
Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (eg Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Azure SQL, Data Lake or similar).
Comfortable supporting end-to-end analytics workflows, including light data engineering and data preparation tasks.
Familiarity with source control and deployment practices (Azure DevOps/Git).
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders and guide less-experienced report authors.
An interest in shaping standards, improving reporting maturity, and taking long-term ownership of an analytics estate.
Nice to Have
Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or modern lakehouse-style architectures.
Experience working with regulated or data-sensitive environments.
Relevant Microsoft certifications (eg PL-300).
