Job Title: Quality Engineer
Role Summary:
Apply quality engineering methodologies to ensure product and supplier quality, support warranty and field service issues, drive continuous improvement for new and existing products, and maintain the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.
Expectations:
* 5–7 years of quality engineering or quality management experience in manufacturing (automotive or lean manufacturing experience preferred).
* Proven ability to lead cross‑functional, independent projects and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving and data interpretation skills with a proactive, process‑focused mindset.
* Effective communicator capable of engaging internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
* Willingness to travel internationally and work globally with suppliers and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support New Product Development (NPD) using APQP/Stage‑Gate processes, including PPAP, FMEAs, control plans, MSA, inspections, and gauge reviews.
2. Develop, implement, and maintain inspection, testing, and measurement systems.
3. Conduct internal audits and supplier audits to verify compliance with quality standards.
4. Maintain and improve quality system documents (procedures, work instructions, forms).
5. Manage non‑conforming material and lead cost‑of‑quality (COQ) improvement projects.
6. Deliver training on quality tools, methods, and key product characteristics (KPCs).
7. Serve as subject matter expert for root cause analysis (8D, A3, 5‑Why, Fishbone) and lead problem‑solving events, driving corrective actions.
8. Track and improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to quality performance.
9. Provide guidance on inspection techniques and measurement systems.
10. Communicate and resolve quality issues across cross‑functional teams and suppliers.
11. Create and present clear, concise reports to internal teams and leadership.
Required Skills:
* In‑depth knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, control plans, MSA, and inspection techniques.
* Experience with quality audits, both internal and supplier.
* Root cause analysis expertise (8D, A3, 5‑Why, Fishbone).
* Strong communication, leadership, and project management capabilities.
* Analytical mindset with data assessment and solution implementation skills.
* Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational and documentation abilities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to read blueprints and apply GD&T.
* Experience working with suppliers, audits, and unionized production environments a plus.
Required Education & Certifications:
* College or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
* ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (asset).
* Six Sigma (Yellow/Green/Black Belt) (asset).
