Job Description
**Job Title:** Field Service Engineer – Cable Harness Assembly **Role Summary:** Provide on‑site build, repair, and installation of cable harnesses for military defence vehicles and rail trackside systems across the UK. Deliver safe, proactive technical service while adhering to health, safety, quality, and IPC standards. Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers, ensuring accurate documentation and high‑quality outcomes. **Expectations:** - Travel regularly throughout the UK (overnight stays, occasional weekends). - Work independently and/or within a team of technicians. - Maintain strict compliance with safety, security (BPSS), and quality procedures. - Communicate professionally with clients and internal stakeholders. - Produce timely, accurate service and engineering documentation. **Key Responsibilities:** - Manufacture, rework, and repair cable harnesses using approved drawings, procedures, and IPC standards. - Install cable harnesses on customer equipment and commission systems. - Provide technical support and guidance to customers and internal teams. - Conduct risk assessments, method statements, and follow permit‑to‑work systems. - Liaise with customers pre‑job to confirm requirements and safety controls. - Record and submit service reports and documentation in line with the Quality Management System. - Build and maintain relationships with sales, calibration lab, and engineering departments. **Required Skills:** - Proven hands‑on experience with cable harness assembly, repair, and installation. - Familiarity with IPC standards for cable harness work. - Strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail. - Excellent interpersonal and client‑facing communication skills. - Ability to manage tasks independently and coordinate with internal teams. - Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer use. - Willingness to travel frequently and work flexible hours, including overtime/weekends. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Technical qualification or equivalent experience in cable harness assembly (e.g., NVQ Level 3/4, apprenticeship, or related engineering diploma). - No specific university degree required. - Must obtain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance; eligibility for security/export control restrictions. - Valid UK driving licence.
