Role Overview And Responsibilities

We require a Field Service Engineer to join our Engineering team, to build, repair and install cable harnesses for military defence vehicles and rail trackside applications, with a focus on customer sites across the UK, predominantly in Telford for the foreseeable future. You will deliver a safe, proactive, flexible and comprehensive technical service to ensure the highest standards of quality and reliability for our clients' cable harness systems. Your role will involve hands-on technical work, customer interaction, and adherence to strict safety and quality protocols.

Core Responsibilities

Manufacture, rework, or repair cable harnesses on customer equipment using approved procedures, customer or internal drawings/procedures and IPC standards.
Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues and customers, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Adhere to company Health & Safety procedures, site safety rules, permit-to-work systems, and conduct risk assessments and method statements.
Liaise with customers prior to job execution to confirm requirements and ensure all necessary safety controls are implemented.
Comply with industry codes of practice and the company’s Quality Management System.
Produce accurate and timely documentation for all tasks.
Work independently or collaboratively within a team of professional technicians or operators.
Maintain a professional demeanour and communicate effectively with clients face-to-face.
Travel regularly across the UK, including overnight stays, and work overtime or weekends when required.

Core Requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Hands-on experience with cable harness assemblies, including building, repairing, and installing.
Self-motivated with a keen eye for detail, problem solver and the ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.
Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in client-facing communication.
Independently manage customer requests, coordinating with clients and internal teams to determine and execute next steps.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, including sales, calibration laboratory, and engineering departments.
Willingness to travel frequently and work flexible hours, including occasional weekends.

Desirable Skills And Experience

Proven ability to configure, commission, install, and repair cable harnesses.
Familiarity with military defence vehicle systems or rail trackside applications.
Experience working to IPC standards for cable harness assembly and repair.

Additional Information

Location: Field-based, primarily in Telford, with travel across the UK.
Contract type: 12 months, Fixed Term Contract.
Travel: Regular travel with overnight stays and occasional weekend work required.
Reporting to: Field Service Manager or equivalent.
Key Attributes: Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable with a commitment to safety and quality.
