**Job Title:**
Systems Engineer Intern
**Role Summary:**
Conduct feasibility analyses of system requirements, produce architectural documentation, and support daily operations for system engineering administrators. Manage and document host computer operations, firmware updates, and backup procedures, while developing tools, training materials, and process improvements.
**Expectations:**
- Execute standard system administration tasks (installation, configuration, troubleshooting).
- Maintain accurate records of system status, downtime, and inventory.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on firmware and software revisions.
- Contribute to a scheduled Disaster Recovery project and evaluate existing POWERVM/VMWare environments.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Monitor host computers, including performance, configuration, maintenance, and patching.
- Document and update system firmware, operating system, and software revisions.
- Use hardware management consoles to oversee physical components and microcode.
- Create procedures for backup and restoration of operating systems, storage, databases, and applications.
- Develop tools, procedures, and training sessions for Operations, Desktop Support, and Systems Development staff.
- Evaluate current POWERVM and VMWARE environments and report findings.
- Perform typical system administration tasks (installation, configuration, troubleshooting).
- Prepare documentation for the Disaster Recovery project.
**Required Skills:**
- Knowledge of programming languages and operating systems.
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux platforms (AIX 7.1, RHEL, Ubuntu) and enterprise backup/recovery procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to design and document complex system designs using Visio and Excel.
- Strong organizational, planning, and documentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with a customer‑service orientation.
- Ethical conduct and respect for diversity and inclusion.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Current enrollment or recent graduation in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Familiarity with infrastructure/server environments, hardware and software monitoring.
- No mandatory certifications required; desirable familiarity with Visio and project planning tools.
