The Department of Educational Studies in Psychology, Research Methodology, and Counseling at The University of Alabama invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 16, 2026. Minimum qualifications include (1) a doctoral degree from an APA and/or NASP accredited school psychology program, and (2) eligibility for certification as a school psychologist and/or licensure as a psychologist in Alabama, as well as a commitment to obtain these state credentials if hired. Candidates wishing to be hired at the level of Associate Profession should have evidence of a clear and sustained record of research, teaching, service, and external funding in school psychology. Candidates applying at the level of Assistant Professor should demonstrate promise to excel in each of these scholarly areas and roles. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in graduate instruction, supervision, and student mentoring. Candidates should also have a strong commitment to responsive and ethical practice.
The Department of Educational Studies in Psychology, Research Methodology, and Counseling houses a flourishing School Psychology program that offers a face-to-face PhD in School Psychology and both face-to-face and distance learning degrees (MA/EdS) in School Psychology. The program is NASP accredited, and we are seeking accreditation from APA. A successful candidate will join four existing school psychology faculty and a vibrant student community.
Responsibilities
Teach graduate level courses and provide university supervision for practica/internships in school psychology;
Establish and maintain a comprehensive agenda of research and scholarship in school psychology and related disciplines;
Contribute to instructional and other program activities in both the on-campus and distance learning (hybrid) programs in school psychology;
Provide effective mentorship and advisement to promote school psychology graduate students' professional competence, skill development, and
research and scholarship, including doctoral dissertations;
Contribute to initiatives and activities in the department and college;
Provide leadership in service and outreach to the university, school districts/other agencies, and profession of school psychology;
Pursue external funding for research, teaching, and service.
*Minimum Qualifications*
Earned doctorate in school psychology or allied field prior to the Fall 2026 start date;
Eligible for licensure as a doctoral level psychologist in Alabama and commitment to obtain this state credential upon hiring;
Eligible for certification as a school psychologist in Alabama and commitment to obtain this state credential upon hiring;
Evidence of research productivity leading to publication.
Commitment to responsive and ethical practice and excellence in graduate preparation programs;
Experience with graduate curriculum standards in school psychology;
Commitment to supporting a range of student needs and backgrounds in graduate preparation programs;
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across the college and university.

Earned doctorate in school psychology from a NASP- approved and/or APA-accredited program in school psychology prior to the Fall 2026 start date. Evidence of success in prior graduate instruction, program development, student mentoring, and dissertation advisement;
Evidence of leadership in professional associations commensurate with experience and status.
Demonstrated experience providing school psychological services to different student and school populations;
Experience with instructional technology applications and distance delivery methods for graduate education;
Ability to provide and supervise direct service to schools, professional associations, and other agencies;
