Interim CIO / CTO Consultant (8-Week Engagement), Immediate Start

Location: Hybrid London - Frankfurt (Tues-Thurs on-site) + Remote

Languages: Fluent German & English

Duration: 8 weeks (immediate start)

Reporting to: Group CEO & Private Equity Firm

The Context

A leading Private Equity Backed European healthcare group, is seeking an Interim CIO / CTO Consultant to deliver a critical strategic IT project ahead of a planned change of control.

The group operates a federated model of clinics and specialist practices across multiple countries.

With vast amounts of sensitive patient data under management, and a clear 3-5 year plan for digital transformation, the business needs a pragmatic, investable IT strategy to present to the Board. This is a board-facing role at a pivotal moment, with both immediate tactical priorities (cybersecurity, GDPR, MSP oversight) and longer-term strategic planning (AI adoption, digitalisation, CRM consolidation).

The Assignment

Over the course of 8 weeks, the Interim CIO / CTO Consultant will:

1. Strategy Development

Develop a 3-year IT strategy with clear priorities:
Year 1: Stabilisation, cyber remediation, vendor control, GDPR compliance.
Years 2-3: Infrastructure consolidation, digitalisation enablement, scalable operating model.
Produce a strategy paper to support PE investment narrative.

2. Cybersecurity & Data Protection

Lead assessment of current cybersecurity posture across distributed service providers.
Recommend models for infrastructure delivery (consolidated, insourced, or hybrid).
Ensure alignment with GDPR, NIS2, and data privacy regulations
Identify risks, gaps, and pragmatic remediation plans.

3. Digital Transformation Enablement

Evaluate current IT and digital capabilities across clinics, call centres, and support functions.
Propose how the group can better leverage AI, automation, data integration, and CRM systems to improve patient experience and operational efficiency.
Define resource requirements, structures, and budgets to support the 5-year plan.

4. Operating Model & Governance

Design an IT operating model balancing central and local responsibilities.
Recommend governance structures (e.g., IT Steering Committee, Cyber Oversight Board).
Establish principles for vendor management and performance measurement.

5. Financial & Execution Planning

Outline capex and cashflow implications (including savings, efficiencies, and one-offs).
Frame execution in a way that supports exit readiness and PE value creation.

Experience & Track Record

Seasoned PE Interim CIO
Sector exposure to multi-site healthcare, clinical services, or other regulated industries (retail, hospitality, financial services also considered).
Cybersecurity uplift and regulatory compliance (GDPR, NIS2).
IT strategy development and roadmap execution.
Vendor management, MSP oversight, and infrastructure transformation.
Background in PE-backed or exit-focused environments highly desirable.

Skills & Attributes

Strategic thinker able to translate risk into action.
Excellent knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, BSI Grundschutz).
Familiarity with ITSM, DR/backup resilience, endpoint security, and M365/Entra ID.
Gravitas and presence to influence Board-level stakeholders.
High EQ with the ability to engage clinicians, operational staff, and PE investors alike.
Comfortable delivering in short, high-intensity projects.
Fluent in German and English (essential).
