Job Title: Application Architect (Hands-On) - Financial Services

Location: Leeds or Stratford, London (Hybrid - 40% Office Based)

We are seeking a pragmatic and hands-on Application Architect to join a critical project within the financial services sector. This role is ideal for an architect who thrives on deep technical collaboration and detailed design rather than high-level strategy.

About the Role:

You will be embedded within the development team, working shoulder-to-shoulder with lead developers to design and integrate new features for a key platform. Your primary focus will be on creating robust, scalable solutions that fit seamlessly within the existing architecture, leveraging established AWS patterns and a well-defined codebase.

This is a hands-on role that requires a low-level understanding of the system to ensure practical and effective architectural decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate directly with developers to understand the existing Java/Spring Boot codebase in detail.
Design new features and components within the constraints of the current system architecture.
Produce clear, detailed architecture diagrams and documentation to guide the development team.
Ensure all designs align with the client's established AWS patterns and best practices.
Communicate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

What We're Looking For (Essential Skills):

Proven Collaboration: A demonstrable history of working closely with development teams in a hands-on capacity.
Technical Depth: Recent, hands-on experience building solutions in an AWS environment.
Core Development Skills: Strong, practical experience with Java and Spring Boot, enabling you to understand and discuss code-level details.
Pragmatic Design Approach: Adept at feature design within an existing framework, not a "greenfield" mindset. You should be comfortable working with and enhancing established patterns.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create clear documentation and present designs effectively.

Logistics:

This is a hybrid role requiring you to be in the client's office 2 days per week (40%). This is mandatory.
The office location can be either Leeds or Stratford, East London.
