Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Location: Hybrid in Montvale, NJ
Employment Type: Contract (40 hrs/week)
Duration: 12 months (potential for extension)
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to help design, build, and deliver reliable, high-quality software products.
In this role, you'll collaborate with engineers, product managers, and domain experts to influence feature design, build scalable test automation frameworks, and ensure quality is built into every stage of development.
What You'll Do
Partner with engineering and product teams to understand business requirements and align quality strategies with product goals.
Participate in the full product lifecycle, contributing to design, architecture, and usability from a quality perspective.
Build automated test frameworks and tools that integrate seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines.
Develop test strategies, plans, and scripts to simulate real-world usage and validate critical workflows.
Write clean, maintainable code for automation and developer tools.
Collaborate in code reviews and technical discussions to ensure quality and maintainability.
Troubleshoot complex full-stack issues and recommend design or code improvements.
Champion a "quality by design" culture -- where testing is proactive, not reactive.
Research and apply modern testing, DevOps, and quality engineering practices.
What You Bring
5+ years of experience in software development and testing of enterprise or SaaS platforms.
Strong programming skills in C#, .NET, JavaScript frameworks, SQL, and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell).
Experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks.
Hands-on with Selenium, Playwright, JMeter, NUnit/xUnit, or similar testing tools.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus.
Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure preferred) and testing cloud-based services.
Strong debugging and analytical skills to resolve issues across code, configuration, and infrastructure.
Experience working in Agile teams with a focus on continuous improvement.
Bonus Points
Exposure to API-first development, microservices, Docker/Kubernetes, or Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Bicep).
Knowledge of secure coding practices.
