Emerging LA
Emerging LA is the most active startup community in Los Angeles, hosting 100s of local tech events and home to 14,000 founders, investors, & operators.
Our mission is to inspire the next generation of innovators and make Southern California a leading global hub for startups.
We foster connections through events, but we also go beyond most communities through impactful initiatives: supporting founders with capital, guiding students with Fellowships, and providing access to private markets through our angel syndicate.
About the Fellowship Program
Students are at the heart of thriving tech ecosystems, and Emerging LA is excited to help build the next generation of founders, investors, and operators.
Check out our programming that has taken place on campus at UCLA, UCSD, and CSUF, where we discuss how Emerging LA connects investors & founders with emerging talent across the LA startup ecosystem.
Our fellowship is open to students across Southern California and is also available to select remote students who have a connection to the SoCal region.
This program will offer hands-on VC experience, working across a wide range of operations & investments:
Research & diligence
Marketing communications
Community events
Deal flow & portfolio management
Thesis development
Investor updates
We're excited to bring fellows into that same ecosystem of innovation.

Fellows will be mentored by and work directly with Brandon Hoffman.
He is the founder of Emerging LA and a General Partner of Sunset Ventures. Sunset is an LA-based venture capital fund that invests in founders applying emerging technologies to change our everyday lives. Focus areas include AI, deep tech, mediatech, fintech, and commerce.
Brandon was formerly an investor & executive at Samsung, an Internet analyst at Morgan Stanley, and spent over a decade working in both financial services and the media industry. He holds degrees from Wharton, Harvard, and CSU Fullerton.
