Platform Engineer (API Gateway/DevOps) - 12-Month Contract | Inside IR35

About the Role

We're looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer to join a global platform team within a leading financial services organisation. You'll play a key role in running and evolving the bank's Internal API Gateway platform -- a central service enabling secure, efficient, and scalable connectivity across the enterprise.

This role combines DevRel (Developer Relations) and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) responsibilities, offering the best of both: direct engagement with developer communities and deep technical work on production systems.

What You'll Do

Developer Relations (DevRel)

Act as a technical ambassador for our Internal API Gateway platform.
Host and chair regular "drop-in clinics" for developer support.
Engage through internal platforms (Discourse, Developer Portal) to share updates, guidance, and best practices.
Help developers adopt and improve the platform's self-service capabilities.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

Join a small global SRE team managing the reliability and performance of the API platform.
Participate in L2 on-call rotation for production support.
Troubleshoot complex incidents, collaborating closely with engineering and customer teams.
Continuously improve observability, automation, and operational tooling.

What You Bring

You're a technically strong, adaptable engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and supporting developer communities. You can bridge the gap between engineering reliability and developer experience.

Required Skills

Strong understanding of REST APIs, AuthN/AuthZ, and distributed system troubleshooting.
Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and version control workflows.
Familiarity with RHEL8 environments and OpenShift (OCP).
Effective communicator comfortable in a corporate, global environment.
Eagerness to learn and work with evolving technologies.

Nice to Have / Advantageous

Experience with Tyk API Gateway or similar API management platforms.
Knowledge of Vault, Splunk, and DX APM.
Prior experience in financial services or large-scale enterprise platforms.
