Hi

Our client is a well-established charity based in London seeking an experienced General Counsel to join their team on a fixed term contract until April 2026.

This is a pivotal role providing strategic legal support across the organisation, ensuring compliance with charity law, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements. The role will suit an individual who has previously operated as a General Counsel or Head of Legal within the charity or not-for-profit sector and is immediately available to start.

As General Counsel, you will:

Ensure compliance with Charity Commission regulations, Companies House, and relevant UK legislation.
Oversee contract drafting and negotiation for suppliers, funders, and partner organisations.
Manage legal risk and implement frameworks for effective risk mitigation.
Support the development and review of organisational policies relating to data protection, safeguarding, and governance.
Liaise with external legal advisors and manage relationships to ensure cost-effective support.
Provide guidance on employment law, intellectual property, and data privacy issues where appropriate.

What we’re looking for:

Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England & Wales).
Proven experience as a General Counsel or Head of Legal within a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
Strong understanding of charity law, governance, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice.
Comfortable working remotely and managing multiple priorities independently.
Immediate availability or short notice period is essential.

What we offer:

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Fixed Term Contract until April 2026.
Fully remote working arrangement.
Opportunity to make a tangible difference within a respected UK charity.
Supportive, collaborative working culture.
