Overview

LMI is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support a federal program management office (PMO) charged with planning, acquiring, and managing the deployment and operation of technology and capabilities to keep our borders safe. We are seeking energetic self-starters who are focused on practical and efficient solutions delivered by an interdisciplinary, collaborative team. This position will provide full-time support to the client’s program management office, located in Washington, D.C . Some travel within the United States may be required. Travel is Required.

Responsibilities

This individual will work with other engineers and subject matter experts to support the client’s program management office (PMO), which is responsible for developing programs of records (POR) and the acquisition and deployment of technologies and systems to protect the nation’s borders.

From program planning and market research to trade studies, requirements definition, engineering analysis, decision support, and program execution assistance, these individuals will apply sound systems engineering principles and ensure that DHS and CBP directives, policies, and processes are followed, and the client’s objectives are met.

Specific Responsibilities May Include

Responsible for implementing technologies, processes, and practices designed to integrate applications, networks, devices, services, and data.
Maximize use of existing tools to correlate information and synthesize data into actionable events; identify and evaluate new technologies, assess their technical and performance characteristics, and conduct research related to cybersecurity technologies, practices, policies, and procedures.
Communicate complex technical concepts and project information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences; provide situational awareness to support government decision-making.
Provide insight into industry trends and recommend future direction for program cybersecurity systems and network defenses; strengthen incident response capabilities and produce effective reports that enhance situational awareness.
Support cybersecurity objectives, including patch and vulnerability management, network monitoring, intrusion detection/prevention, and log analysis.
Identify and implement mitigating countermeasures for threats, vulnerabilities, and gaps.
Develop Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) to support risk mitigation.
Review and recommend improvements to program-level documentation (e.g., requirements specifications, system architecture, design documents, test plans, security plans, POA&Ms).
Create and execute integration, regression, and performance test plans; automate where feasible.
Troubleshoot complex integration issues and perform root-cause analysis across application, network, and infrastructure layers.
Manage configuration and version control; maintain environments across dev/test/stage/prod.
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for integrated systems; drive observability.
Document designs, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), runbooks, and deployment procedures.

Qualifications

SENIOR LEVEL: 10+ years of relevant experience and a STEM BS degree or 7 years relevant experience and a MS degree in systems engineering.
Experience in providing full life cycle systems engineering support to large, complex programs
Familiar with DHS or DoD Acquisition Lifecycle Framework (ALF)
Familiar with DHS Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC) framework
Experienced in requirements analysis
Experience in developing engineering plans, trade studies, CONOPS documents, and decision papers
Knowledge of a broad spectrum of technical fields and engineering disciplines
Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, communication skills, and leadership skills
Self-motivated, proactive, independent performer who can perform well in a collaborative, team environment
Ability to travel out of state on a monthly basis.
All positions require eligibility to acquire CBP BI, for which you must be a U.S Citizen. Highly Preferred: Active U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) BI
This position is contingent upon completion of CBP BI and customer approval

Target salary range: $120,00
