You Are

UST Canada is seeking a Senior Node.js Software Engineer to join an agile development team for a client project. This is a high-impact role supporting both on-premise and cloud-based applications, offering the opportunity to work with modern technologies in a dynamic, cloud-focused environment.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Node.js Software Engineer, you will:

Develop API-based web applications from concept to production, with a focus on cloud-first architecture.
Solve complex technical challenges and provide innovative solutions in ambiguous situations.
Collaborate closely with product stakeholders and development teams, effectively communicating technical concepts.
Design, develop, test, and deploy systems using industry-leading practices.
Ensure high-quality, well-tested code and drive continuous improvement.
Mentor team members and make critical technical decisions.

This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.

What You Need

8+ years of software development experience
Proficiency across the full stack: frontend frameworks, databases, deployments
Experience with API development and cloud-based architectures
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage tasks without direct supervision
Experience with Test-Driven Development and various database technologies
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies
Advanced ability to solve complex problems using creativity and experience

Technology Stack

Cloud Application: Node.js backend, C# engine, AWS, React.js frontend
On-Premise Application: C# and .NET Framework
Infrastructure & Tools: AWS (Step Functions, Batch, Lambdas, ECS, API Gateway), Terraform, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, Docker/Linux Containers, ECS/Fargate
Databases: SQL (Relational), NoSQL
Additional Tools: DBT, Qlik Replication, Snowflake, Angular, Groovy, Python, Shell Scripting

Development Environment

Agile methodology with Scrum practices
AWS cloud infrastructure
Emphasis on collaboration, autonomy, and independent problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications

Insurance and/or reinsurance industry knowledge
Advanced knowledge of actuarial systems and cloud migration strategies
Experience with data engineering or React

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Remote

Compensation Range: $104,000-$130,000

Benefits

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They and their dependents residing in Canada are eligible for Supplemental Healthcare coverage, as well as Company-paid Employee Only basic life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year). They and their dependents residing in Canada are eligible for Supplemental Healthcare coverage, as well as Company-paid Employee Only basic life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage.

Part-time regular and temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year).

All Canadian employees who work in a province, territory or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
