Eleven Recruiting is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer (Azure) to join one of our leading defense and space manufacturing partners, supporting their global IT infrastructure team onsite in Huntington Beach, CA.
This role will drive the design, deployment, and standardization of Microsoft Azure environments, network modernization, and compliance initiatives across multiple U.S. locations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on Azure experience, strong networking skills (preferably with Fortinet firewalls), and a deep understanding of system security and regulatory frameworks such as SOX and CMMC/CMC.
You’ll play a central role in supporting a global migration to Azure, uplifting LAN environments, and ensuring the organization’s infrastructure meets the highest standards of reliability, scalability, and compliance.
Responsibilities
Azure & Hybrid Infrastructure
Design, deploy, and manage Azure-based infrastructure, including Virtual Machines, Azure Active Directory, and Storage.
Integrate on-premises environments with Azure using ExpressRoute, Azure Arc, and hybrid AD.
Implement and manage RBAC, Conditional Access, and MFA policies aligned with SOX and CMMC/CMC requirements.
Automate provisioning, patching, and configuration management using PowerShell and Azure Automation.
Networking & Fortinet Migration
Configure and standardize Azure networking components (VNets, subnets, VPN gateways, load balancers, and NSGs).
Support the migration from Azure firewalls to Fortinet firewalls to create a unified network management platform.
Collaborate with managed service providers on firewall policies and lead network cutovers when necessary.
Support LAN uplifts and standardization efforts across multiple U.S. facilities.
SOX & CMMC/CMC Compliance
Implement and validate system and network controls to meet SOX and CMMC/CMC compliance standards.
Produce and maintain audit-ready documentation including configuration evidence, control test results, and network topology diagrams.
Support ongoing remediation activities and assist in technical preparations for internal and external audits.
Observability, Security & Disaster Recovery
Configure and manage monitoring tools including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and Sentinel.
Administer Defender for Cloud for proactive threat protection and alerting.
Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans using Azure Backup and Site Recovery; perform periodic recovery testing.
Ensure proactive monitoring, alerting, and documentation of performance trends.
Operations & Support
Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support for Azure infrastructure and hybrid environments.
Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions to improve reliability.
Maintain up-to-date runbooks, configuration guides, and operational documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional IT and Engineering teams to execute large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
Required Qualifications
4–6 years of professional experience in systems engineering or cloud infrastructure roles.
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (VMs, AD, Storage, AKS, AVD, Networking).
Working knowledge of Fortinet firewalls (FortiGate policy configuration, VPN setup, or templating).
Experience managing hybrid environments integrating on-prem and cloud systems.
Strong understanding of enterprise networking fundamentals (DNS, VPN, routing, load balancing, segmentation).
Demonstrated experience with SOX or CMMC/CMC compliance and technical control implementation.
Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and configuration management.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries.
Microsoft Certifications: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Solutions Architect Associate (AZ-305).
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
Experience with DevOps tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, or Ansible.
Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Pay Rate: $65.00/hr
