This is an exciting opportunity to join HMRC’s CDIO (Chief Digital & Information Officer), Borders and Trade Delivery Group working within the IT Operations space.

Person specification

At This Role Level, You Will

Manage and maintain all Borders and Trade platforms across all environments, working with 3rd party suppliers and internal teams ensuring our environments are highly available, secure and performant.
Manage and track Borders and Trade assets using environment management system software and tools to collect agreed statistics and data. Carrying out agreed environment maintenance and administration tasks, ensuring that data is collected to support reporting and analysis. Automating regular tasks where possible.
Actively participating in ensuring that Border and Trade platforms and assets are patched and secured to an agreed supported level. Working with suppliers and third parties to ensure that patches are implemented across all environments in a timely manner.
Ensure environment cyber vulnerabilities or threats are verified and addressed with immediate effect and with as little impact to the business.
Working with the Senior Environment Engineer on the maintenance and development of infrastructure/environment products and tools.
Developing and maintaining procedures and documentation for environment management.
Contributing to the setting of standards for environment management in Borders and Trade and ensuring conformance to those standards.
Proactively identify issues or problems working within the team and the wider Border and Trade delivery group or 3rd party suppliers to resolve. Supporting Major Incidents impacting the business where the Environment Team can assist or resolve.
Identification of opportunities for improvements within Borders and Trade systems, services and components.
Taking a proactive lead on environment and FinOps activities.

Essential Criteria

Environmental management and maintenance.
Agile toolsets such as Jira and Confluence, alongside data visualization tools like Power BI.
Familiarity with delivery management of patching cycles.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Working independently and performing own research.
Working as part of a small team and wider teams.

Desirable Criteria

Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience in the use of some or all of the following:

Familiarity with and experience working on Windows, Unix and Linux operating systems.
Experience working in cloud environments (AWS and/or AZURE) would be a plus.
