Job Specifications

We are currently seeking a Senior Java Developer to support one of our biggest vendors in Belgium. This project focuses on migrating a suite of Visual Basic applications—used for soil mechanics testing, data visualization, and reporting—into modern, scalable Java web applications.

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain Java-based web applications in line with the shared IT architecture of the Flanders Department of Subsurface Engineering (DOV).
Lead and coach a small development team, ensuring high-quality code and efficient delivery.
Migrate legacy Visual Basic applications to Java web applications.
Execute programming tasks quickly and efficiently, including coding, testing, and debugging.
Maintain and update existing Java applications for file management, laboratory planning, and reporting.
Collaborate closely with DOV analysts and developers to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
Monitor, investigate, and resolve technical issues reported by Geotechnical staff.
Report progress and technical updates to the Geotechnical IT Manager.

Requirements:

Demonstrable experience developing Java/J2EE applications.
Experience leading development teams and coaching junior developers.
Strong track record in Agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM.
Proven ability to quickly deliver high-quality software solutions.
