Role: Telecom and Fiber Engineer

Type: Inside IR35 Contract (12 Months)
Work Mode: Onsite (5 days per week)
About the Role
We’re seeking a highly skilled Telecom and Fiber Engineer to join our operations team in Chester. This role involves ensuring the reliability and performance of complex telecommunication, fiber optic, CCTV, and radio networks across multiple critical sites.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer who thrives in hands-on environments, is comfortable managing both day-to-day maintenance and large-scale communication projects, and can handle high-responsibility systems across multiple facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Telecoms & Network Operations
Perform LAN and telephone shifts/provides across Stanlow, Tranmere, and Thornton.
Act as 1st and 2nd line support for telecoms, comms, and network faults.
Maintain and troubleshoot alarm and control signal systems (fire, low level, monitoring).
Manage LAN services, microwave, modem, and telemetry links.
Maintain 33KV SCADA LANs, DCS optic links, and site-wide third-party networks.
Support and maintain Security and Process CCTV, VC installations, and radio communication systems.
Install and maintain fiber optic cables, underground joints, and telephone terminations (200/100/50/20 pair).
Maintain gate access lines, fire alarms, sirens, and the SUCS (Site Urgent Communication System).
Manage on-site and off-site ADSL/Wi-Fi installations and maintenance.
Maintenance & Projects
Participate in the 24-hour call rota for Telecom/Radio/CCTV faults.
Oversee major communication projects and shutdown infrastructure maintenance.
Maintain cable management across Stanlow, Tranmere, and Caplum.
Conduct annual inspections of ATEX communications equipment.
Manage radio, mobile, and pager maintenance, stock, and PAT testing.
Host and coordinate with third-party service providers (BT, C&W, ADT, etc.).
Support office installations, refits, and data comms electrical setups.
Requirements
Proven hands-on experience in Telecom and Fiber Engineering.
Expertise in LAN/WAN systems, fiber optics, CCTV, and radio communications.
Knowledge of SCADA, DCS, and telemetry systems.
Experience with fire alarm lines, intercoms, and Wi-Fi networks.
Familiarity with ATEX-certified communications equipment (preferred).
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination skills.
Time-served tradesman qualification or equivalent engineering background.
Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for critical systems.
