About The Role
Samsara is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our TimeSeries team. In this role, you will be instrumental in enhancing the reliability, performance, and scalability of our proprietary in-house time-series data store and event streaming framework. Your expertise will be vital in identifying opportunities for system improvements, developing new features, and ensuring our infrastructure can support our rapidly expanding customer base. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product and firmware teams, to understand their data requirements and develop tailored solutions. Your work will directly influence the efficiency and effectiveness of our data infrastructure, enabling us to deliver superior products and services to our clients. This position is remote and open to qualified candidates residing within the United States.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm solutions
At least 2 years in an architect or leadership role
4+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems
4+ years of experience leading cross-organization projects
Proven expertise in backend-focused development and enterprise software applications
Strong understanding of system life cycles, edge cases, interactions, and failure modes
Excellent collaboration skills working with diverse development teams, including frontend, mobile, firmware, and ML/Computer Vision
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and scale microservices capable of handling gigabytes per second of streaming data
Identify, prioritize, and implement new features for our in-house time-series data store and event streaming framework
Partner with product and firmware teams to understand their data needs and develop effective solutions
Create an intuitive and efficient user experience for internal stakeholders utilizing the infrastructure
Champion Samsara’s cultural principles, including customer success, long-term building, growth mindset, inclusivity, and teamwork, as we expand globally
Continuously improve system reliability, performance, and scalability through innovative engineering solutions
Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment
