Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Facilities Operative (Retail Assistant) to join our Facilities team at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

This is a varied role supporting catering and retail services, ensuring high standards of food service, hygiene, and customer care across the hospital.

There are 3 posts available with the following hours:-

Post 1 - 36.5 hours to be worked mornings, days and afternoons over 5 shifts per week.

Post 2 11 hours to be worked 14:30 - 20:00 on a Saturday and Sunday

Post 3: 26 hours to be worked 12:00 - 20:00 & 16:00 - 19:30 over 4 shits per week

Currently we are unable to provide certificates of sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the Home Office’s criteria. Anyone requiring a certificate of sponsorship is therefore unable to be shortlisted and interviewed

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Serve meals, snacks, and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors.
Prepare basic food items and assist with hospitality functions.
Operate tills, handle cash, and complete cashing-up procedures.
Replenish vending machines and retail stock, following good stock control practices.
Maintain hygiene standards in kitchens, retail areas, and equipment in line with Food Safety and Health Board policies.
Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and storage of goods.
Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
