About the Role
The Data Center Technical Operations Engineer I is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of mission-critical infrastructure that supports large-scale cloud and compute services. This is a hands-on engineering operations role, ideal for early-career candidates with mechanical, electrical, or technical training who want to grow within the data center industry.
Key Responsibilities
• Support daily operations of electrical and mechanical systems while following strict safety and operational procedures
• Collaborate with shift technicians, senior technicians, contractors, and vendors to support facility operations
• Operate and maintain critical data center infrastructure, including:
– Switchgear, generators, UPS systems, PDUs
– Chillers, cooling towers, CRAH units
– Building monitoring and control systems
• Establish operational benchmarks and generate maintenance/performance reports
• Partner with IT and facilities teams to support ongoing projects and optimize data center performance
• Participate in new construction activities, equipment upgrades, and facility buildouts
• Assist with inventory management, asset tracking, and procurement
• Support recruiting activities for technical operations team members
• Deliver high-quality service and ensure operational requirements are consistently met
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree or technical school, trade school, or military equivalent
• 0–2 years of relevant industry experience
• 0–2 years of leadership or team coordination experience
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• High attention to detail and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Strong commitment to safety and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
• 0–2 years of experience in data center engineering or data center operations
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Foundational understanding of low-voltage systems, network layout, copper/fiber cabling
• Experience in mission-critical facilities or industrial mechanical/electrical environments
Work Environment
• Fully onsite position supporting a high-availability data center
• Work closely with technicians, engineers, and operations leadership
• Exposure to large-scale facility buildouts, upgrades, and efficiency initiatives
• Potential for contract extension or conversion based on performance and business needs
