Assistant Engineer I

Location: Downtown Los Angeles, CA (near Union Station)

Duration: Up to 6 months (potential to extend / convert)

Schedule: 9/80 hybrid schedule (may require 5 days onsite during training)

Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:45 PM, every other Friday off

Pay Rate: $48 – $53.00 per hour

Our client, a large public utility that plans, operates, and maintains critical infrastructure delivering reliable water and energy services to millions of residents and businesses across Southern California, is seeking an Assistant Engineer. You will support the Integrated Operations Planning & Support Services team with engineering analysis, energy and cost studies, regulatory compliance efforts, and operational support activities related to power systems and infrastructure operations.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with planning, coordinating, conducting, and monitoring engineering tests, studies, and investigations
Support energy and cost analysis activities
Assist in addressing power system and energy market metering issues
Support and cross-train on compliance requirements related to critical infrastructure cybersecurity (NERC CIP)
Assist with revenue enhancement and operational optimization efforts
Prepare technical documents, reports, presentations, and supporting materials
Perform technical, mathematical, and statistical analyses and modeling
Assist with preparing cost estimates and budgets
Support site inspections and field-related activities as needed
Maintain official records, documentation, and data
Perform administrative and other related engineering duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (by hire date)
General knowledge of engineering principles and practices
Knowledge or academic exposure to electrical engineering, computer science, and/or cybersecurity
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments

Additional Requirements

Local candidates (Southern California)
Defensive Driver Certification (required)
No active CalPERS membership
No H-1B sponsorship
