Position Summary GEICO is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Underwriting Services Team. In this role, you will build and scale the next generation of underwriting platform for all business lines in GEICO and revamp existing tier-1 underwriting services. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization by designing, developing, and deploying core consumer experiences that leverage AI, ensuring they are robust, scalable and production ready. The Service Underwriting Engineering team partners closely with GEICO's underwriting operations team to design, build, and enhance applications that streamline underwriting processes and improve decision-making efficiency. The team develops scalable, reliable solutions that enable underwriters to work smarter, faster, and with accuracy, and aim to replace repetitive manual work with AI and automation.
Position Responsibilities As a Senior Engineer, you will:
Build up domain knowledge in one or more major areas in the team and provide technical and thought leadership to design, build, and productionize systems
Design and develop highly available, scalable and secure software solutions to cater business needs with quality and expected timelines
Own complete solution across its entire life cycle
Be accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
Collaborate with Product Manager and Operations team to align project goals and requirements
Influence and educate leadership at all levels
Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
Qualifications Experience with designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining solutions for distributed systems
Fluency and specialization with at least one modern language such as Java, Go, or C+
Experience with services-oriented architecture with modern API protocols such as gRPC and REST
Experience with event-driven architecture with Kafka, container orchestration with Kubernetes or Docker.
Experience with data storage
Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle
Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
Fluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure/AWS DevOps operational framework
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate complete technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering
2+ years of experience with security, identity, architecture, and design
2+ years of experience with open-source frameworks is desired
2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
Nice to Haves Experience building AI/ML products, conversational interfaces particularly with LLMs or similar AI models
Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
IVRPOLYXAnnual Salary $105,000.00 - $215,000.00 The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
