This role offers a unique opportunity for a talented illustrator to help shape the visual identity of an innovative board game project. The game blends elements from classic tabletop RPGs and JRPGs, featuring a streamlined character creation system and a narrative-driven experience. The combat system is a hybrid of LCG-style card play and miniature movement within a 3D game space, with a visual style inspired by the iconic aesthetics of Final Fantasy. The project is in its early stages, and the selected artist will collaborate closely with the creator to develop compelling concept art that captures the game's distinctive atmosphere and mechanics. This is a remote, project-based engagement with the potential for future collaboration as the game progresses.

Deliverables

Create high-quality concept art for key characters, environments, and game elements, reflecting the game's RPG and JRPG influences
Develop visual references for the combat system, including card designs and miniature movement within a 3D space
Produce mood boards and style guides to establish a cohesive aesthetic direction
Iterate on artwork based on feedback to ensure alignment with the creative vision
Prepare final concept art assets suitable for presentation to potential publishers

Requirements

Proven experience in illustration, with a strong portfolio showcasing concept art for games or related media
Ability to interpret creative briefs and translate ideas into visually engaging artwork
Familiarity with RPG, JRPG, and board game genres, particularly in terms of visual storytelling and character design
Proficiency in digital illustration tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar software
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting
Availability for feedback sessions and revisions as needed
Passion for games and an understanding of the board game development process is highly desirable
