Job SummaryThe DevSecOps / OpenShift (Kubernetes) Engineer functions as a lead technical resource supporting large-scale Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Health Services projects. This role contributes significant business and technical expertise to complex IT initiatives, providing leadership, mentorship, and hands-on engineering across DevSecOps, Azure DevOps, and Red Hat OpenShift platforms.The engineer partners closely with development teams to ensure platform solutions align with business application requirements while advancing organizational DevSecOps maturity, automation, security, and reliability.Job Duties & Responsibilities
Serve as lead DevSecOps, Azure DevOps, and OpenShift (Kubernetes) engineer for DHHS Health Services projects.
Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineering and DevOps team members.
Consult with application development teams to ensure platform architecture aligns with business and application requirements.
Design, implement, and maintain Azure DevOps (ADO) standards including Wiki, work item structures, repositories, branching strategies, pipelines, and pull request processes.
Automate CI/CD pipelines across Red Hat OpenShift (OCP), Linux, Windows, SQL Server, Oracle, and related platforms.
Create ADO build and deployment pipelines for containerized and non-containerized Java and .NET applications, integrating with Apache Tomcat, JBoss, SQL Server, Oracle, Windows, and Linux.
Produce detailed documentation for processes, automation, and standards.
Administer and troubleshoot Red Hat OpenShift v4 environments, including application and platform issues.
Create and maintain OpenShift build, deployment, and CRD configuration files.
Build and manage Docker and S2I images, StatefulSets, and image conversions between Docker and S2I.
Develop and maintain custom Helm charts and manage container orchestration workloads.
Manage container image repositories such as Quay.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy, upgrade, and maintain enterprise applications.
Lead administration and optimization of the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) v8.x+, including performance, capacity, and index retention.
Configure and maintain Logstash pipelines, grok patterns, and Elastic Beats (Filebeat, Heartbeat).
Integrate security and code-quality tools such as SonarQube, Coverity, and Black Duck into ADO pipelines and pull request workflows.
Perform Linux scripting and automation using bash, ksh, Python, and related tools.
Troubleshoot Java application errors and platform-related issues.
Apply strong working knowledge of SSL, TCP/IP networking, and LDAP.
Communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders while working independently or within diverse teams.
Required Experience
8+ years of experience working with Kubernetes / OpenShift.
8+ years of experience with Linux shell scripting.
5+ years of expert-level experience in application containerization management.
Hands-on experience implementing DevSecOps practices, infrastructure automation, and scripting/programming.
5+ years of experience with enterprise DevOps and platform technologies.
