About the role:

For a prominent client of ours in the food industry, we are looking for an experienced Freelance Rockwell Automation Engineer for a 6-month+ assignment based in the Ghent / Brugge region. You will work on complex production line projects, supporting automation scope management, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The team primarily uses Rockwell-based systems, including ControlLogix and Studio 5000, with hands-on support required during commissioning and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

Take ownership of the full Rockwell automation scope within multidisciplinary project teams
Act as the technical reference for Rockwell standards, architecture, and motion control
Prepare RFQs, support tendering, and manage supplier interfaces with procurement
Define automation and safety strategies, including production line architecture, OT networks, M2M interfacing, and safety zoning
Provide hands-on support during commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation

Skills & Experience:

Proven experience as a Rockwell Automation Engineer in industrial automation
Proficient in ControlLogix, Studio 5000, Kinetix
Strong experience in commissioning and troubleshooting Rockwell-based production lines
Knowledge of OT networking fundamentals (industrial switching, VLANs, machine communication)
Experience with Machine Directive and CE compliance
Proficiency in electrical safety standards (EN 60204-1)
Field cabling and industrial commissioning experience on-site
Nice to Have: Experience with Siemens automation (TIA Portal, S7), OEMs, and system integrators
Dutch preferred, English acceptable
Willingness to travel and work onsite as needed
