Senior GCP Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (4 Roles Available)

Bristol / Leeds / Halifax / Manchester / Edinburgh, UK | 6-Month Contract

Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week | Day Rate: £500/day (Inside IR35)

A leading UK financial services organisation is looking for Senior GCP Cloud Infrastructure Engineers to strengthen its Public Cloud Platform capability. You will play a key role in designing, building, and operating scalable Google Cloud infrastructure products using Infrastructure as Code and DevOps principles. You will support delivery teams with reusable cloud platform components, automation, and governance, helping to drive reliable and self-service cloud capabilities across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on GCP cloud engineering with a strong DevOps and CI/CD focus.

• Design, build, and maintain scalable GCP cloud infrastructure and platform products.

• Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform / Terraform Cloud.

• Build automated workflows and operational tooling using Python scripting.

• Engineer and operate Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) environments, including container orchestration and Istio service mesh.

• Audit, refactor, and standardise existing Terraform modules and state files.

• Migrate legacy infrastructure configurations into reusable, modular templates.

• Implement security-focused Terraform modules with embedded guardrails and policy-as-code (Sentinel / OPA).

• Enforce GCP Organisation Policies covering network security, access management, encryption, IP restrictions, and region controls.

• Integrate and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Harness, Jenkins, and GitHub.

• Automate infrastructure deployment pipelines to improve reliability, speed, and consistency.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in GCP Cloud Engineering and DevOps.

• Proven expertise in Terraform / Terraform Cloud and Infrastructure as Code.

• Solid Python scripting skills for automation and tooling.

• Experience with CI/CD tools including Harness, Jenkins, and GitHub.

• Deep knowledge of GKE, containers, and Istio service mesh.

• Experience implementing GCP Organisation Policies and policy-as-code using Sentinel or OPA.

• Relevant GCP and Terraform certifications.

• Experience working with cloud engineering platforms or IDEs (e.g. Backstage) is advantageous.

Desirable Skills

• Senior-level engineering experience with exposure to architecture, design, and cloud strategy.

• Background as a Cloud SME or Technical Consultant, contributing to best practices and innovation.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across multiple stakeholder groups.

• Leadership mindset with the ability to influence engineering standards and ways of working.
