The Opportunity

A Leading Financial Services business has just received PE-backing and as a result is undertaking a major digital transformation, with a central focus on building a new internal data, AI, and engineering capability. As part of this programme, the organisation is creating a portfolio of internally developed products that will underpin future growth and operational effectiveness.

A critical next phase of the transformation is the evolution of the engineering function from a purely internal engineering model to a scalable hybrid delivery model, combining strong in-house capability with high-performing third-party partners.

An Engineering Transformation Lead is a foundational leadership role, with material influence over strategy, operating model, and delivery outcomes.

The Strategic Challenge

The organisation has taken on a huge investment and is looking rapidly develop their internal digital capability. As a result they are looking to build out a Senior Leadership team, with this role specifically helping to define how they approach and scale their engineering capability… quickly. The role will be the driving force behind:

Building a new data, AI, and engineering capability from the ground up
Ensuring the environment combines startup-level influence, agility and autonomy with enterprise scale
Shaping how engineering delivery works, not just what is delivered

Role Responsibilities

The Engineering Transformation Lead will:

Design and implement a hybrid engineering operating mode, balancing internal teams with third-party delivery in a sustainable and scalable way.
Define what must remain in-house versus what can be externalised
Protecting core IP while enabling flexibility and speed.
Owning the end-to-end engineering lifecycle across vendors, including: solution design, build and testing
Enable elastic delivery capacity allowing the organisation to scale delivery without permanent headcount bloat.
Establish strong delivery governance and standards.
Ensuring third-party teams operate to the same quality, security, and engineering standards as internal teams.

This is a hands-on leadership role, spanning strategy, operating model design, and execution.

Initially an Outside IR35 12 month contract, there is a very high likelihood that this role will be converted a permanent position beyond the initial term.
