We are seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to support end-to-end payroll processing and benefits administration for a mid-sized organization operating in a regulated environment. This is a contract opportunity (3 months with potential extension) for a detail-oriented professional who can take ownership quickly and ensure accuracy, compliance, and a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

Process bi-weekly and/or monthly payroll accurately and on time
Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations
Reconcile payroll data and investigate discrepancies
Prepare and submit payroll taxes and year-end filings
Manage payroll changes related to new hires, terminations, and employee updates
Calculate bonuses, overtime, and other variable compensation
Support complex payroll scenarios, including multi-jurisdiction processing

Benefits Administration

Administer group benefits programs (health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement plans, etc.)
Coordinate benefits enrollment for new hires and annual open enrollment
Ensure benefit deductions are correctly reflected in payroll
Liaise with benefits providers and resolve employee or vendor issues
Verify and process benefit invoices and billing statements
Support annual benefits renewals and benchmarking activities

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
or formal training in Payroll Administration
3–5 years of hands-on payroll and benefits experience
Experience using payroll systems (ADP preferred; other systems welcomed)
Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and benefits administration
High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Clear communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
