Overview:

Thema Support are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Associate to join our team. You will be working primarily to support the Operations & Compliance Team in their investment execution functions onboarding and closing Fund’s, Investors and Investments.  In this role as first line of defence, you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Compliance in the regulatory approval and compliance oversight for the setup and onboarding of our early-stage venture capital funds as well as day to day support in the administration of our Appointed Representatives. You will work closely with fund administrators in both the UK and Luxembourg, ensuring that all activities align with relevant regulations and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Process: Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for the establishment and operation of the venture capital funds in the UK and Luxembourg, with specific focus on fund set up and investor onboarding KYC/AML CTF
Approval Processes: Facilitate and oversee the submission of regulatory applications and approvals, ensuring timely and accurate completion
Manage communications with Fund Administrator: Collaborate with fund administrators and relevant third parties, to ensure compliance processes are effectively integrated into fund operations
Risk Assessment and Compliance Monitoring Programme: Assist with regular assessments of compliance risks and implement necessary controls to mitigate them.
Appointed Representatives: Assist the Head of Compliance in the day-to-day management of the firms Appointed Representatives, implementing controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Compliance platform: Assist the Head of Compliance with the ongoing oversight and set up of training and monitoring as AIFM and for the Appointed Representatives within our internal compliance system
Investor and Target Company AML processes: Undertake initial and ongoing AML checks and screening reviews
Reporting: Aid the Head of Compliance in the compilation of both FCA external reporting and internal Board reporting
Payments and Banking: Assist the compliance team with bank account set up and third-party payments for our Funds, liaising with relevant external counterparties
Support the Head of Compliance in the implementation of the firm’s investment process for the Venture Capital Funds

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, law, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., ACAMS, ICA) are a plus
Experience: No experience needed but preference for 1-2 years in compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related role, preferably within the financial services or investment sector
Knowledge: Strong understanding of AML frameworks governing venture capital funds

Skills:

Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Curiosity to lean and expand knowledge of the venture capital ecosystem
Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
