Job Title: Security Analyst
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (3–6 months)
Work Model: Hybrid in Charlotte
Compensation: Hourly: $35–$40/hr (W2)
Conversion Salary Range: $70,000–$80,000
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Security Analyst to support the monitoring, analysis, and response to security events across enterprise systems. This role plays a critical part in protecting organizational data, infrastructure, and assets from cyber threats while supporting compliance with established security policies and standards.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundational IT background, baseline security knowledge, excellent customer service skills, and a genuine desire to learn and grow in cybersecurity.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and analyze security alerts and events from tools such as SIEM platforms, firewalls, and endpoint protection solutions.
Perform initial triage and investigation of security incidents, escalating issues as appropriate.
Triage and respond to phishing emails, including analysis and incident documentation.
Assist with vulnerability management activities, including patching and remediation support.
Review logs and reports to identify potential threats, anomalies, or policy violations.
Support the implementation and enforcement of cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices.
Document incidents, findings, and remediation actions in a clear and structured manner.
Participate in security audits, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives.
Contribute to security awareness and training materials for end users.
Maintain awareness of emerging security threats, tools, and industry trends.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR equivalent professional IT/security experience.
Solid understanding of core cybersecurity concepts such as threats, vulnerabilities, and risk.
Must have a working understanding of DNS and basic network concepts.
Foundational knowledge of:
Operating systems and authentication mechanisms
Email and networking protocols
Active Directory / identity platforms (on-prem and cloud-based)
Familiarity with incident response principles and basic digital forensics concepts.
Ability to interpret data flow and network diagrams.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer service mindset.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with endpoint detection and response tools (e.g., CrowdStrike).
Experience with email security platforms and phishing incident management.
Familiarity with firewall technologies (e.g., FortiGate).
Ability to generate queries and basic scripting experience (PowerShell preferred).
Experience creating or supporting cybersecurity training or documentation materials.
Exposure to IT security compliance initiatives or frameworks.
Interest in or familiarity with CMMC or similar security frameworks.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Has a solid IT foundation with growing security exposure (not necessarily a senior security specialist).
Demonstrates curiosity, initiative, and a strong willingness to learn.
Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Values hands-on experience and practical problem-solving over certifications alone.
Has recent, consistent employment history with no significant unexplained gaps.
