Job Overview

At the RUH, Security staff do all they can to help patients, visitors and hospital staff feel welcome, safe, valued and supported. Security staff are ambassadors for the Trust and should give demonstrate that the RUH is a safe and caring environment.

You will be responsible for undertaking a full range of security duties on a fully rotating shift pattern to:

Ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors while on Trust premises
Protect RUH Trust property and that of staff and visitors
Provide response to emergency situations, including fire and violence & aggression interventions and all major incidents

Main duties of the job

These duties must be carried out in accordance with the key principles outlined in the DPA 2018 and General Data Protection Regulations, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the CCTV/BWVC Code of Practice, and in accordance with the Department of Health’s and the Trust’s operating procedures.

Carrying out physical interventions and control and restraint of violent persons.

The position of Security Officer is one of exceptional trust and privilege and the expectations of honesty and integrity are higher than even those of other NHS staff. By virtue of the role Security Officers are expected to be exemplars and uphold the rules and authority of the Trust. In so doing Security Officers will frequently be privy to highly sensitive information and be given unrestricted access and privileges in order to undertake their job, it is therefore essential that Security Officers behave in a manner that is transparent and unimpeachable.

Security Officers are also expected to provide witness testimony during investigations.

Ensuring that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times (in accordance with NHS Data Protection and Information Sharing protocols – full training will be given).
