Internship – R&D Engineer (CCS)

Duration : 6 months

Location : École polytechnique - Drahi Xnovation Center

Start: Feb/March 2026

Osborne Systems is a deep-tech startup incubated at École polytechnique (X-UP Create). We develop a software platform to digitalize industrial engineering workflows, with a focus on fluid measurement systems for CCS applications.

Mission

Support the evaluation and improvement of thermophysical models used for CO₂-rich mixtures (>95%) by benchmarking multiple equations of state (EoS) against experimental data, and contributing to a scientific paper.

Key responsibilities

Literature review (2–4 weeks): CCS-oriented thermophysical models and EoS (GERG-2008, PC-SAFT, SRK, etc.), impurities impact, P/T sensitivity, new solutions
Experimental database: extract, clean, and structure a CO₂-rich dataset (composition, pressure/temperature, measured properties) representative of CCS conditions (transport/compression/injection)
Benchmarking: compare experimental data vs EoS predictions, analyze trends by pressure/temperature zones and composition, identify high-risk regions
Publication: structure results and contribute to an English conference paper draft

Required skills

Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics / fluid properties
High rigor in data analysis
Technical English (reading/writing)

Appreciated skills

Python or advanced Excel
Data visualization, scientific writing

Desired profile

Final-year student / Master’s level (M2 or equivalent) in chemical engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, physics, chemistry, or applied data science.
