Job Description

Key Objective

The VP, Software Engineering is accountable for the leadership, development, transformation and strategic oversight of the Development Teams. These teams are responsible for working on projects to complete the design, development, and testing of IT initiatives in accordance to the business needs and IT standards. The Director will be responsible for the management of these teams within a functionally oriented IT organizational structure, while working with complex information technology systems, in a fast paced, multiple priority environment.

Major Responsibilities

Lead our team through transformation, particularly in helping execute AI adoption into the development cycle, on DevSecOps and process modernization initiatives.
Lead teams of developers comprising of full time, contract and offshore staff, including hiring, coaching and performance management as appropriate.
Work with development teams to ensure the application design supports its on-going maintenance, architecture and security alignment.
Oversee and ensure the success of the project developers as they execute on large strategic IT initiatives.
Drive the adoption of AI in the development lifecycle (AI-driven development), thereby increasing the team's development capacity and production quality.
Develop and manage resource plans in accordance with the strategic direction of IT in Canada.
Develop and manage working relationships with the other IT managers.
Manage the IT relationship with the business, including overseeing the demand process, and leading Steering Committee meetings.
Ensure the IT deliverables align with Chubb's global requirements in areas such as security, architecture and infrastructure.
Facilitate developer team meetings and knowledge sharing sessions.
Keep applications current, address vulnerabilities and modernize as required.
Develop best practices, policies, and procedures for the development teams.

Qualifications

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or a related discipline
At least 5 years experience in an IT leadership role, preferably managing IT application development teams.
At least 5 years experience as a developer building commercial quality web-based systems.
Experience with AI driven software development encompassing the entire development lifecycle.
Experience working in a highly regulated industry.
Strong understanding and expertise with the Agile SDLC methodology, and framework.
Experience with DevSecOps.
Excellent time management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
Passionate about talent development and proven success with coaching others in their career development.
Superior customer service and diplomacy skills with strong stakeholder management capabilities.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, including strong formal presentation abilities.
Strategic problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Proven ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.
Highly collaborative with demonstrated achievement as a change agent, and transformational leader.
