SALARY: $88,868 – $104,546

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and reporting financial and statistical data for both internal and external stakeholders. This role ensures that Cost Centre Managers and Executives receive timely, accurate financial information to support informed decision-making.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare monthly divisional financial statements and analyze budget-to-actual variances; investigate significant fluctuations and provide written commentary to managers
Monitor and reconcile divisional revenue streams, ensuring earned and unearned revenues are accurately reported
Prepare and maintain quarterly forecasts using financial models and templates; analyze trends to support budget adjustments and planning
Develop annual budgets and three-year business plans by analyzing historical and projected data; support Ministry reporting requirements
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and improve divisional performance
Conduct scenario analysis for potential projects and assist in implementing cost models, business cases, and financial studies
Support Business Analysis, Planning, and Intelligence teams with financial data, KPI input, and budget availability
Complete special assignments including statistical reporting (e.g., Stats Canada), journal entries, audit support, and training documentation

REQUIREMENTS:

University degree in Business Administration or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
2-3 years of experience as a Financial Analyst or similar role
CPA designation required (or pursuing)
Knowledge of accounting practices
Must possess strong computer skills (advanced Excel)
Must be detail oriented and have superior analytical and financial analysis skills
Experience needed in downloading and manipulating data
AS400/Infinium and Sequel or other “query” based computer software training are a definite asset
Strong oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to solve problems effectively
Excellent time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership abilities
Strategic and critical thinker with sound judgment
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Skilled at evaluating and synthesizing information from various sources to support decision-making
Committed to upholding company health and safety standards
Knowledge of the Rail, Motor Coach, and Remanufacturing industries considered an asset
