About Green Planet
Green Planet is a Europe-focused company building sustainable, space-efficient home and furniture products with selective smart features for urban living, with our operations hub in Barcelona and design and materials research focused on London and Germany.
We take an end-to-end approach to product development—from concept and product design to supplier development, quality control, and cross-border go-to-market. We focus on practical design, reliable manufacturing, and consistent brand quality. Our current markets include Spain and the UK, with ongoing expansion across core European regions.
We are currently in a focused product development and iteration phase, and selectively collaborate with designers who can deliver solid outcomes while also thinking at a product and system level.
Project context
We are currently developing two core furniture products focused on urban compact living.
Both products have completed concept definition and core system logic clarification. One product has already gone through a first-generation build and validation cycle and is now entering a refinement and iteration phase.
The next phase focuses on design refinement and DfM/DfA optimisation (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly), translating existing concepts into production-ready solutions. Work will involve improving structural logic, detailing key components, balancing design intent with manufacturability, and preparing the products for scalable manufacturing.
What you will work on (project-based, milestone-driven)
• Translate existing concepts into production-ready design: structure, key components, details
• Produce supplier-ready outputs: 2D/3D CAD + engineering drawings for sampling/tooling
• Optimise for manufacturability, packaging efficiency, and shipping constraints
• Iterate with supplier / prototype feedback, balancing design intent, cost, and usability
• Where needed, support product visual communication for go-to-market, including exploded views, functional diagrams, or clean product visuals to clearly explain structure, usage and key features (not pure marketing visuals).
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a furniture / product designer who can work with us project by project, with the potential to evolve into a long-term design partner.
This is not a traditional freelance execution role — and not a standard full-time hire either.
You might be a good fit if you:
• Have 3–5+ years of hands-on experience designing manufacturable furniture or home products, with real products taken to market,
or concept products recognised by international design awards (e.g. Red Dot, iF Design Award, London Design Awards or equivalent)
• Understand — and ideally have experience balancing — aesthetic intent with structural logic, material behaviour, ergonomics, cost, packaging efficiency and real-world manufacturing and logistics constraints.
• Able to translate abstract ideas into clear, production-ready design logic, and communicate effectively with manufacturers. This includes creating accurate 3D models, engineering drawings and visual materials that suppliers can directly use for tooling, sampling and production; aligning design intent with manufacturing constraints; and supporting downstream needs such as packaging, logistics and e-commerce presentation.
Bonus (not required, but highly valued)
• Experience designing portable, modular or foldable furniture or products with strong space-efficiency considerations.
• Experience with eco-friendly materials or sustainability-driven product development (e.g. bio-based plastics, recycled materials, material efficiency, lifecycle thinking)
• Experience or strong interest in light-smart furniture or products with selective smart features, where technology meaningfully supports usability and space efficiency
• Exposure to manufacturing, packaging, or commercialisation processes in real-world product development
Technical skills & tools (supporting the role):
Comfortable working with industry-standard tools for furniture and product development, such as:
• 3D modeling: SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, SketchUp (or equivalent)
• 2D engineering drawings: AutoCAD or similar
• Rendering & visualization: KeyShot, V-Ray, Blender, 3ds Max (or equivalent)
• Layout & visual communication: Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop
What we offer
• A role with clear scope and compensation, room for long-term growth, flexible ways of working, and exposure to an international, cross-border environment.
• The opportunity to see your designs move through the full commercial lifecycle — from concept and engineering, through manufacturing and launch, to real-world customer use and sales.
• Direct exposure to real furniture manufacturing and supply chains, including hands-on collaboration with experienced factorie in China and alignment with European market requirements.
• Access to European sustainability-focused material research and design
