Robotics Mechanical Engineer

(Contract roles with potential for conversion)

A fast-growing, industry-leading robotics company is hiring multiple Robotics Mechanical Engineers to support a major production ramp. These roles are initially contract positions, with the potential to convert to full-time for high-performing candidates, though conversion is not guaranteed.

Structural Design, Materials & Manufacturing Strategy

Develop and evaluate material selections and manufacturing processes for major robotic structures, with a strong emphasis on cost efficiency, manufacturability, tolerance control, serviceability, and overall system design intent.
Define clear load paths, functional interfaces, and service boundaries to ensure structural performance aligns with packaging constraints, product lifecycle requirements, and production scalability.
Establish robust tolerance strategies, applying precision only where required (e.g., joint axes, bearing seats, gearbox interfaces) while avoiding unnecessary tight tolerances in non-critical features.
Design assemblies to support efficient servicing, modular replacement, and repeatable reassembly without loss of alignment or performance.

CAD Development & Simulation

Create and iterate detailed 3D CAD models to evaluate trade-offs between strength, stiffness, mass, and manufacturing complexity.
Use parametric modeling techniques to rapidly explore alternative architectures, materials, and joining methods while maintaining consistent design intent across iterations.
Apply appropriate simulation and analysis methods—including static load analysis, stiffness evaluation, and basic fatigue assessment—to visualize structural behavior and compare design options.
Leverage simulation results to guide material selection, geometry refinement, and interface definition, ensuring performance targets are met without unnecessary mass or cost.

Prototyping & Production Pathways

Define clear prototyping and production strategies that enable rapid iteration while supporting a smooth transition to scalable manufacturing.
Utilize early-stage prototyping methods such as CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and modular test fixtures to validate structural concepts, electro-mechanical integration, and serviceability.
Evolve designs toward mass-manufacturable solutions—including castings, extrusions, stamped components, or composites—while preserving validated load paths, geometry, and performance characteristics.
Ensure lessons learned during prototyping are systematically incorporated into production designs to minimize risk and avoid late-stage redesigns.

Cross-Industry Best Practices & Integration

Apply proven structural and electro-mechanical integration practices from adjacent industries such as automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.
Translate established solutions—such as modular actuator cartridges, datum-based assembly strategies, compliant mounting approaches, and integrated cable management—into practical, manufacturable robotic designs.
Use cross-industry insights to address structural robustness, vibration control, thermal management, and long-term reliability at scale.

Required Qualifications;

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field
3+ years of professional experience designing mechanical systems for robotics, automation, or electro-mechanical products in a production or pre-production environment.
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or CATIA), including parametric modeling and multi-part assemblies.
Experience designing structural components with consideration for manufacturability, tolerance stack-ups, and serviceability.
Hands-on experience with common manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
Working knowledge of structural analysis fundamentals, including static load cases and stiffness considerations.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including electrical, firmware, controls, and manufacturing engineers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document designs and design rationale.
