Senior Software Engineer

Pittsburgh, PA + Travel

$160–200k Package

Certus Recruitment Group is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a mission-driven software company building data-intensive platforms used by senior stakeholders across the U.S. national security ecosystem.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who cares deeply about code quality, scalable architecture, and building products that matter. The Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in designing and delivering robust backend systems that support complex data and analytics workflows.

The Role The Senior Software Engineer will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, working closely with product, data, and QA teams in an agile environment.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing, building, and testing scalable data-driven backend systems
Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested production code
Contributing to end-to-end feature development and platform capabilities
Optimising systems for performance, reliability, and accuracy
Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and technical innovation
Collaborating within a scrum-based agile team alongside engineers, DBEs, and QA

What They’re Looking For

U.S. Citizenship is required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
6+ years of professional software engineering experience
Strong backend engineering experience using Java / Spring Boot (or equivalent)
Advanced SQL skills with experience using PostgreSQL
Comfortable working in Linux environments
Experience building systems that support data-driven analytics
Proven ability to work independently in fast-paced environments

Desirable Experience

Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain one
Exposure to startup or high-growth product environments
Experience working in agile / scrum teams
Familiarity with Git version control
Frontend exposure (JavaScript, React, CSS)
Prior experience working in product-led engineering teams
