Job Specifications

Cyber Security Engineer – Space Technology (London, UK)

Technology · London, United Kingdom · Full-time

Our client, a rapidly expanding UK-based space technology company backed by leading institutional investors, is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join their London team.

The company develops advanced space-based data capabilities serving climate, sustainability, defence, and national security markets. Following successful in-orbit missions and with additional launches planned, they are scaling both their space and ground infrastructure - making cybersecurity a critical strategic priority.

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of securing a high-value digital estate within a dynamic, high-growth environment. Cybersecurity is treated as both the first and last line of defence, protecting mission-critical systems and sensitive data from increasingly sophisticated threats.

The Role

As Cyber Security Engineer, you will sit within a dedicated DevSecOps function and play a central role in safeguarding the organisation’s infrastructure, systems, and data.

You will proactively monitor digital infrastructure, identify and mitigate threats (including malware and ransomware), and implement preventative and corrective controls. The role requires deep familiarity with cybersecurity standards, certifications, compliance frameworks, and modern threat actor tactics.

You will report to the Senior DevOps leadership and collaborate closely with DevSecOps, engineering, and wider business teams to continuously improve the organisation’s security posture.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented cybersecurity professional who is motivated to make a tangible impact within a mission-driven organisation.

You understand the responsibility involved in securing systems that may be targeted by sophisticated threat actors, and you value strong team collaboration to deliver resilient, world-class security services.

You are a continuous learner who takes initiative, leads where appropriate, and shares knowledge with colleagues. You also recognise that strong cybersecurity extends beyond technical controls to include compliance, documentation, and certification.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain security monitoring systems enabling real-time alerting of threats, breaches, and vulnerabilities
Proactively monitor the company’s environment for security events, leading rapid and appropriate response actions
Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and collaborate with engineering teams to enhance defensive controls
Manage credentialing and access controls, monitoring for unauthorised changes or anomalous behaviour
Maintain oversight of the organisation’s infrastructure and emerging threats, feeding insights back into development teams
Lead delivery of key technical security initiatives
Design and implement layered security defences to protect sensitive data from internal and external threats
Continuously enhance cyber defences to stay ahead of evolving attack techniques

Project Management & Governance (Approx. 30%)

Own and manage the Cyber Security Risk Register
Produce regular security and compliance reports for senior management
Support the development and rollout of company-wide security awareness training
Maintain security policies, standards, procedures, and control documentation aligned with industry best practice and legal requirements
Support the organisation in achieving relevant cybersecurity accreditations and certifications
Maintain professional awareness of evolving cybercrime tactics and countermeasures

Key Requirements

Eligibility to obtain UK SC or DV clearance (mandatory due to the sensitive nature of the work)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, IT, or equivalent practical experience
3–5 years of hands-on cybersecurity experience, including GDPR compliance, ideally within an SME, government, or similarly regulated environment
Strong experience securing AWS environments (essential); experience with Azure, particularly Defender, is advantageous
Proficiency in Python for tooling development and shell scripting (Windows/Linux environments)
Solid understanding of IT infrastructure fundamentals (hardware, software, networking)
Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation within the DevSecOps team

Desirable Experience

Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as Cyber Essentials Plus, NIST 800-171, CMMC, or similar
Strong analytical, forensic, and problem-solving skills
Experience collaborating closely with software development teams to embed security requirements
Knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 networking, VPN connectivity, and network isolation best practices
Experience using security monitoring or observability platforms
