Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician (EOT)

Contract | London | 6 months | Up to £250/day

Role Overview

This role sits within a global cloud infrastructure organisation responsible for the design, delivery, and operation of mission-critical data centre environments. The team ensures continuous availability of large-scale cloud services by operating and maintaining highly resilient electrical and mechanical systems.

As a Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician (EOT), you will act as the on-site technical authority, responsible for maintaining infrastructure that supports 99.999% uptime across critical systems. You will combine hands-on technical expertise with a strong safety mindset, operational discipline, and a drive for continuous improvement.

This is a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment where engineering excellence, reliability, and innovation are central to everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Operations & Maintenance

Operate, monitor, and maintain all electrical, mechanical, emergency power, and fire/life safety systems within the data centre
Perform fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of facility-level and rack-level events within defined SLAs
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, including:
HVAC preventative maintenance
Filter changes
Rack power installations
Rack PDU and ATS replacements
Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and contribute to long-term corrective actions
Take and record daily operational readings (temperature, voltage, current, pressure, etc.) during routine site rounds

Operational Excellence

Use a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders, asset history, and spare parts inventory
Supervise contractors delivering servicing and preventative maintenance activities, ensuring quality and compliance
Support Data Centre Operations teams as a technical escalation point
Participate in an on-call rota, responding to out-of-hours incidents across regional sites

Safety, Security & Compliance

Uphold and actively promote a world-class safety culture, ensuring all work is carried out in line with safety standards and procedures
Own and drive safety initiatives and remediation activities in collaboration with wider teams
Ensure strict adherence to physical security procedures and policies at all times

Technical Environment

You will work with a wide range of critical infrastructure systems, including:

Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
Switchgear and circuit breakers
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
Diesel generators
Chillers and HVAC systems
Exhaust fans and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Transformers

Essential Requirements

City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Hands-on experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems in critical environments
Strong understanding of:
Electrical theory and distribution systems or
Mechanical systems including HVAC, controls, and cooling infrastructure
Ability to work methodically under pressure and respond effectively to incidents
Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
